No Count ‘Honey’ and Mustard Steak

No Count ‘Honey’ and Mustard Steak

I decided to try this recipe out as I do like steak when it’s been cooked in the slow cooker as it’s nice and tender.  However, I didn’t want to make a casserole.  This meal is free on No Count and absolutely gorgeous!  If tracking, the sauce is 1sp but you would need to count the steak after weighing it ( a medium one is around 5 points).  You would also need to weigh and count any potatoes used.

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • two steaks with any fat removed
  • 200g chestnut mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tsp wholegrain mustard
  • 250ml beef stock
  • 1 tbsp Myprotein sugar-free butterscotch syrup

Method:

  1. Put the steaks and mushrooms in the slow cooker.
  2. Make up the beef stock with a stock cube, then add the mustard and syrup. Stir it all together.
  3. Pour over the steaks and mushrooms, and season.
  4. I cooked this in the slow cooker on Low for four hours. Just keep an eye on the sauce – you want it to thicken up but not dry up.

Served here with oven roasted new potatoes and cauliflower and broccoli mash:

Oven roasted new potatoes – spray potatoes with Frylight and sprinkle with salt.  Pop in the oven on 180C for about 40 mins.

Cauliflower and broccoli mash – cook the veg and mash it together.  Add a dessert spoon of 0% Yeo Valley crème fraiche and season.

I am doing No Count, since September and FINALLY getting to grips with it, lol Can I ask, about Rice Krispies,,,If I have 37g do I have to take that out of my “weekly points allowance”? so confused on certain points. tia, keep up the good work,x

  2. Hi Vivien, glad you like the look of this recipe; it’s also good to hear that you’re getting to grips with No Count:-)Yes, you would have to take the points for Rice Krispies out of your weeklies (oats are free and very filling, if you like them:-)).Hope you have a fab weekend!Helen xxx

  3. What sort of steak do you use please and can you tell me where you get the syrup? Would really like to try this
    Thanks

  4. Hi Chris, I usually use Aldi beef medallion steaks (2 steaks in a pack at a cost of £3). The syrup is from the Myprotein website although check out Amazon too as sometimes it is cheaper there.Helen xxx

  5. Hi Helen
Can’t seem to find butterscotch syrup. Amazon out of stock and might not be getting any more in and Myprotein website doesn’t list it. Any ideas where I can try please?
    Thanks Ann xxx

  6. Hi Ann, I’ve just had a scout around the Internet and it looks like they’ve introduced a couple of new flavours and stopped making the butterscotch flavour. It is still available on Amazon but at double the price!I also use the Maple flavour so I’d go for that one – it’s 30% off today on the MyProtein website so I’ve just stocked up too.Helen xxx

  7. I’m happy to help:-)Yes, I should have said to substitute the butterscotch for the maple syrup – it should still taste great!Enjoy!Helen xxx

  8. Hi Helen,
